Clothesline Art

by Jon Katz

I love to take photos of clotheslines, they are an art form, just like the windowsill gallery. It is actually cool this morning, and clear. We took the clothes out for drying.

Hanging on the long, twisting in the breeze, I often think I’m looking at a painting. In a way, I am.

  1. Love this photo, and hanging clothes outdoors. I’m a fan of purple, and fun socks…so this really speaks to me! 🙂

  2. One book I read about the Amish questioned how an artistic spirit could manifest itself in that culture and one way they put forth was in how clothes were hung on the clothesline and how gardens were planted and maintained. When my kids were younger and I had little time for my own art I purposefully hung laundry in a way I found artful. There is real beauty there.

    1. Thanks, Judith, I find the Amish very creative about what they do, not what we do. Watching them plan a crop or building or foodshed, I don’t think anyone could doubt their creativity, but we like to see everything in our terms, not theirs.
