Retreat. A Day Of Listening, Watching, Loving, Thinking

by Jon Katz

Maria had this great idea that I love. A “retreat,” a day of quiet, loving, thinking, reading, watching, listening, and writing (for me). We’re going to sit outside, by the pond, on the porch, and in our house.

A day of meaning, I am connecting and refreshing ourselves. I want to write about it, but I also want to think about it. We are going to the book store (I’m going to try Neil Gaiman), the Moses market for fruit and vegetables, the food co-op to drop off the laundry, which is our chore.

This is a time to reflect, face the reality of ourselves and our lives, and nourish our great love for one another. A day to celebrate the power of creativity together.

I learned some time ago that I don’t have to go off to a monastery or a mountain to think and face myself (and love myself), all I need is a safe place and some quiet, and some love.

I love the idea of this day; I’ll share it when I can. And you know me,  I can.

  1. Neil Gaiman!! Huzzah! Hope you share your thoughts about his writing. My almost 40 something daughter met him in person back when she was in 8th grade and was entranced with Sandman series. He was delightful to and with her. She was already a talented artist and presented him a painting she did of a character from Sandman. Neil was genuinely touched and delighted. He even kissed her on the cheek. You are going to enter a new world of wonder no matter which series or book you pick up of his.
